Working for the LGA

Like councils, we have made big financial savings and redoubled our efforts to improve the clarity, relevance and quality of our offer whilst making major improvements in our efficiency.

To achieve this, we have recently made big changes to the way we work. The five national local government bodies (LG Association, LG Improvement and Development, LG Regulation LG Employers and LG Leadership) have come together and from 1 June 2011 are working as the Local Government Association (LGA). The LGA's design is based on six principles:

• We are led by local elected politicians;
• We have one set of politically determined priorities, based on councils’ top priorities;
• We base our work on strong networks of councillors and officers at all levels;
• We demonstrate transparency and value for money;
• We are flexible and responsive, constantly in touch with councils;
• We have the mix of skills and experience that give us credibility with both councils and government.

Demonstrating our values in every aspect of our work with councils and colleagues is important to us: being respectful and positive, taking responsibility, and sharing knowledge and skills.

We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community.
