Working for LG Improvement and Development

Because we operate in a constantly changing environment, LG Improvement and Development is an exciting and stimulating place to work. The issues and challenges facing local government – as well as the wider world of public service improvement – have radically changed in the past six years, and as a result, our organisation needs to change to accommodate these fresh demands and new priorities.

An open door

To enable us to continually evolve and change, we actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and sectors. We also welcome people to work with us on secondment – they can share their knowledge and expertise, returning to their own organisations with an enriched portfolio of skills and experience.
We employ a core number of staff who deliver our main products and services. People who are seconded bring specialist skills and knowledge, enhancing our overall staffing mix. This enables us to flexibly manage our resources and fast-track skills development, ensuring that we meet our key priority: to generate continual and self-sustaining improvement across the sector.

Our secondment initiative

Our secondment initiative is designed to kick-start our aim to be a 'permeable organisation'. We believe that this approach will benefit everyone:

  • For individuals, it’s an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills and competencies, and gain exposure to different ways of working.
  • For LG Improvement and Development and the host or donor organisation, it provides the opportunity to replenish and refresh our organisations with skilled and experienced practitioners.
  • Local government as a whole also benefits, developing the capacity of key employees by facilitating an exchange of skills within the sector.

For the duration of the secondment, the secondee remains an employee of the donor organisation – and so will continue to be paid through their payroll and receive any benefits associated with the employment. LG Improvement and Development then fully reimburses secondment costs to the donor organisation.

Social environment

LG Improvement and Development is a lively, fun and yet professional place to work. A range of social activities are organised throughout the year, giving all employees the opportunity to interact in a relaxed environment.

Staff briefings

Regular staff briefings and an annual staff conference are organised, so that employees are kept informed of the progress of all the business units across LG Improvement and Development, and have a good understanding of new projects.

We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community.
