A day in the life

Support Manager

On joining I was assigned a main point of contact. I had a verbal induction to LG Improvement and Development and explanation of my role. I was also given the names of key people to speak to, all of whom were generous in the time they afforded me. Furthermore I was given training in finance and project software that I would be expected to use.

My induction gave me the opportunity to ask questions and make sure I fully understood the requirements of my role, which is varied. Meeting different people helped me to quickly establish the structure of the company and develop a directory of helpful contacts. Now that I am settled into LG Improvement and Development, I use what I learned in my day to day role.

One of my responsibilities as Support Manager is to manage the department budget. This involves working with colleagues in the business unit and finance department and using the software I was trained in, to track income and expenditure against programmes of work. This includes duties such as raising invoices and orders and arranging virements (budget changes) and monthly reports.

I am also responsible for collating report information on strategic and operational targets and it is therefore valuable to know who the project leaders are within my department and which areas they cover.

My position has line management responsibility for the project co-ordinators and team administrator. It was important that from day one I was aware of LG Improvement and Development protocol concerning performance review and aware of the requirements of these other roles. Fortunately this information had been covered in my initial week at the organisation.

We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community.
